PUNK: HOW THE CLASH AND THE SEX PISTOLS IMPACTED THE PUNK REVOLUTION

Home: Welcome

ABSTRACT

Punk can propose problems. Punk music is fairly controversial, it comes with the ideas of rebellion, individualism, and the rejection of authority (anti-authoritarian). The music itself can be very aggressive and loud. When you think punk, most people think spiked hair and riots, but it is more than that. Punk pushes boundaries. It rejects the ideas of mainstream rock, which is a comfort zone to most people, and the role that it plays politically is important but can cause controversy as would any other political debate. But overall, punk comes with a sense of letting loose and becoming someone that is free, equal, and self-expressive. Looking at bands such as The Clash or the Sex Pistols we are able to see the impact they had on society and the impact they made in the punk movement.

BIOGRAPHY

Hello, my name is Inara Junkala. I will be attending VCUarts, my intended major is photography possibly double majoring (or minoring) in psychology. I am an artist, and enjoy anything when it comes to being creative. I love going to live shows and I have also photographed bands. Because of my interest in the arts I wanted to do a little deeper into the unknown, which to me was Punk.
